Good quality but limited supply

There were approximately 500 export and 280 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 300 head week-on-week at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a stronger market.
Quality was good overall however supply was more limited with a larger proportion of secondary cattle on offer.
The better quality vealers sold six cents to seven cents dearer for most while the secondary lots suited to feeders and restockers sold firm.
Yearling trade cattle lifted two cents to six cents for a more limited selection.
Grown steers and bullocks improved four cents to eight cents. Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold firm while the crossbred portion gained three cents.
Vealers suited to butchers sold from 284 cents to 332 cents. Yearling trade steers made between 273 cents and 309 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 263 cents and 280 cents.
Grown steers made from 262 cents to 287 cents. Bullocks sold from 268 cents to 277 cents.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 231 cents and 250 cents with the crossbred portion between 250 cents and 268 cents.
