True blue celebration

Berwick’s Pioneer Park, with its beautiful summer flowers and shady trees, was the ideal backdrop for the City of Casey’s Australia Day celebrations.
The Rotary Club of Berwick hosted a breakfast for its members and volunteers before the official celebrations, which attracted an estimated 3000 people, kicked off.City of Casey councillor Susan Serey opened the proceedings by welcoming the community and presiding over a stirring rendition of the Australian anthem which was cheerfully sung by all in attendance.
Ms Morland was followed by Australia Day ambassador Kay Morland who gave a moving speech about the importance of coming together to share our good will and community spirit.
Then the fun and games began.
Children had a great time enjoying all the fantasy and fun on offer.
A ring of classic cars surrounded the many and varied food vendors.
A face painting tent, giant slide and merry go round were popular with the younger generation, while wood turning demonstrations and wood cutting competitions drew an older crowd.
Animal lovers got up close and personal with their four-legged friends in the petting zoo and the air was filled with the ever present laughter coming from carriages full of children as Thomas the tank engine wove its way through the park.
The Kazoos were a particular treat with their song and dance show and the horse and carriage rides were busy until late in the afternoon.
Rotary Club of Berwick President Ricardo Balancy said such a successful event would not have been possible without the “wonderful” support of the City of Casey.
“It is wonderful to showcase the work we do for the community and we are always pleased to receive inquiries about joining us in our work,” Mr Balancy said.
