A premium art event is headed to Berwick’s historic Edrington Homestead.
The Edrington Grand Art and Sculpture Exhibition will see the heritage house become open to the public to showcase the work of leading Victorian and interstate artists over one weekend.
Hosted by Provenance Artists Incorporated in association with the Berwick Artists Society, the event has made quite the name for itself over the years for its high calibre of work.
“We are proud that this exhibition has been recognised as a premium art event of Victoria and possibly the second best,” president of Provenance Artists Incorporated Calvin Bell said.
Mr Bell said the event was “actually several exhibitions in one”, and as a result had something for everyone.
This year’s show will include land and urban scaps, flora and fauna, marine and water scaps and petits – post card sized artworks arranged in columns of six.
There will also be a selection of sculptures on display in the gardens.
But perhaps of most interest to locals will be the ‘Historical Homes of Casey’ exhibition.
Featuring 30 paintings of 30 historical homes across the area, including Alrose – the home of Star News’ founding Thomas family, the exhibition promises to take viewers on a trip down memory lane while forever preserving a piece of history through art.
Attendees will then be able to browse the homestead’s beautiful grounds or enjoy tea and coffee in the gardens.
An assortment of art will also be available for purchase by the public, while keen artists can try their hand at an abstract painting workshop.
Those interested will need to get in quick as workshop places are limited; email barbarajstocks@hotmail.com or phone 0414 833 383 to secure your spot.
Mr Bell said the exhibition offered opportunities too good to pass up.
“The homestead is rarely open to the public and so this is a very special and significant occasion,” he said.
The Edrington Grand Art and Sculpture Exhibition will be held on 2 to 4 March from 10am to 5pm at the Edrington Homestead, 6 Melville Park Drive, Berwick.
The exhibition will wrap up on the Sunday at 3pm.
