Rainbows for resilience

Kooweerup Primary School dedicated a day to mental health awareness.

The students at Kooweerup Primary School had a rather unusual school day – ditching the books and donning their oldest clothes in the name of mental health.
The idea sparked from a “very well attended” parent information night with guest speaker Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project: an organisation dedicated to teaching positive mental health strategies in schools.
“We are thrilled to be continuing to work with The Resilience Project in 2018,” Principal Nathan Jagoe said.
“Martin is a highly engaging and motivating speaker who presents some very powerful and worthwhile messages.
“We are so grateful to have secured such a highly sought after speaker here within our school community.”
Feeling motivated and inspired, the school hosted their own Resilience Day, where they completed a range of resilience activities focusing on mindfulness, empathy and gratitude.
The activity-packed day finished off with a huge colour explosion.
“What an amazing end to an amazing day,” Mr Jagoe said.
“The day finished with the most awesome colour explosion.
“I want to thank the Parents and Friends group who organised the colour explosion and to the staff and students from Kooweerup Secondary College who organised all of the obstacles between the colour stations.
“The work of this tireless group of people is something we are so grateful for.”
