Car up in flames after driver flees

A car caught fire on the Monash Freeway near Tynong after its driver allegedly fled from police down the wrong side of the road.
Police appealed for witnesses after arresting the 23-year-old Traralgon man in the early hours of Sunday 1 April.
He first caught police attention about 3.40am on Intrepid Drive, Berwick, and refused to stop when officers tried to intercept him.
Police said the man then drove his white 2003 Holden Commodore outbound along the Monash Freeway’s inbound lanes.
About 500 metres from the Tynong Road exit in Tynong, the man’s vehicle caught fire about 4.10am.
Police alleged the driver ran from the car but they arrested him in nearby bushland a short time later with help from the Dog Squad.
Dandenong Divisional Response Unit officers are investigating and are appealing for anyone who saw the man driving down the Monash Freeway to come forward.
It’s believed about 10 cars and possibly a truck drove past him.
