AFL YARRA RANGES

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 2

Emerald was unable to capitalise on its first-up win away to Healesville in Round 1, falling to Mount Evelyn by just five points at Chandler Reserve on Saturday night.

The Bombers jumped out of the blocks with four goals to one in the first term, but the Rovers continued to peg them back and took a slender lead of their own into the final term before holding on, 9.8 (62) to 8.9 (57). Casey Thomsen, Paul White and Sean Kelleher all shone for the Bombers.

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 2

Starring roles from former AFL pair Michael Firrito and Tarkyn Lockyer (four goals) were instrumental in guiding the Brookers to victory at home over Yarra Junction in Gembrook, 11.10 (76) to 10.14 (74).

The Brookers started the stronger of the two sides but were eight points down at the main break. They once again shot out of the blocks with a seven-goal third term and did just enough to hold on despite being held goalless in the last.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA NEPEAN

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4

Devon Meadows will be ruing it’s slow start against Langwarrin on Saturday, falling by 37 points at Lloyd Park, 14.8 (92) to 8.7 (55).

After conceding eight goals to one and a 43 point deficit, the Panthers were unable to claw their way back despite a four goal last quarter.

For the Panthers, former Cranbourne star Mat Fletcher was prominent, while Allan Murray chimed in with three of his own.

Meanwhile, down at Somerville, Pearcedale disappointingly fell by 53 points to the inaccurate Eagles, 14.23 (107) to 8.6 (54).

GIPPSLAND LEAGUE

ROUND 4

A heart stopping ending to the Drouin and Warragul has resulted in an extraordinary one-point win to the Hawks at Drouin Recreation Reserve.

The amazing win – that would lift the spirits of the embattled club – was their first after 22 consecutive losses, and they did it the hard way against one of their great rivals.

After leading by 22 points at three quarter time, the Gulls charged hard and threatened to take the game away in one fell swoop, booting 5.6 to 2.3 in the last term, but were unable to salvage anything more as a steadfast, and brave Hawks defence stood tall.

Jeb McLeod was simply brilliant through the middle for the home side, while forward Liam Anderson (three goals) and champion ruckman Bob McCallum were outstanding in a famous win.

SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4

Keysborough have continued their unbeaten start to the season with a hard-fought win over East Brighton.

It was a tight match all day, but Matthew Carnelley (five goals) proved to be the match-winner as the Burras claimed the 10.12 (72) to 10.6 (66) win.

The Doveton Eagles also remain undefeated. Doveton 20.21 (141) took control after quarter time against Hampton 8.10 (58), as Peter Dye ran riot on his way to booting 10 majors.

DIVISION 3 – ROUND 2

Hampton Park were dominant against South Yarra.

Nathan Carver (seven goals) and Michael Henry (five goals) – in senior game 200 – were too much for South Yarra as they ran away 25.20 (170) to 1.2 (8) winners.

Hallam may have kicked the only goal of the first term, but it was all Ashwood after that.

A five-goal haul to Christopher Grove saw Ashwood claim the comprehensive 15.19 (109) to 4.6 (30) win. Jonathan Daly and Matthew Studd (two goals) were best for Hallam.

Endeavour Hills were too strong for Black Rock, claiming a 13.11 (89) to 3.3 (21) win. Jarrod Marolla (four goals) and Christopher Webber impressed for the Falcons.

Springvale Districts claimed a 26-point win over Heatherton, 8.15 (63) to 5.7 (37), as Thomas Wilkinson and Matthew Soutter-Smith led from the front in a dominant second half display.

DIVISION 4 – ROUND 4

Lyndale fell one-point short of a win over Cerberus.

Trevor Kumetaitis (five goals) and Jayden Denmead did all they could for the Pumas, but it wasn’t enough as Cerberus took the chocolates, 11.9 (75) to 11.8 (74).

Dandenong and Sandown battled it out in what was a see-sawing affair.

Shane Cosstick (five goals) and Nathan Isles were best for the Cobras, leading their team to a nail-biting 10.6 (66) to 9.6 (60) win over the Redlegs. Michael Scott, Jayke Hopkins (two goals) and David Barrie (three goals) were best for Dandenong.

Lyndhurst 15.15 (105) were far too strong for Moorabbin 9.2 (56) as Hugh Cullen-Scholes and Anthony Besim took control of the game for the Lightning.

EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 4

Rowville 15.15 (105) claimed a win over Montrose 5.9 (39). After a tight first half, the Hawks put the foot down in the second half, booting 10 goals to one.

Noble Park took on North Ringwood in an enthralling battle. Unfortunately for the Bulls, they fell by one-point, 12.13 (85) to 12.14 (86).

Jake Gains and Cosimo Anagnostou were best for Noble Park in the heart-breaking loss.

VAFA

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4

St Johns were outclassed by a devastating Whitefriars team. A seven goal to none opening quarter set up the Whitefriars win, 23.13 (151) to 7.8 (50).

Lewis Neate kicked nine goals for the Whitefriars, whilst Laurence Kazinoti was best for St Johns on a disappointing day.

TAC CUP GIRLS – ROUND 7

After losing their first five games, the Stingrays have made it back-to-back wins, with an impressive display against the Oakleigh Chargers.

Alice O’Sullivan and Jordyn Allen led the way for the Stingrays, who claimed the 8.8 (56) to 4.4 (28) win.

Gippsland Power 3.2 (20) fell just short of claiming a win over the Eastern Ranges 4.5 (29).

Jasmine Ferguson and Tyla Hanks were dominant, but it wasn’t enough as the Ranges held on for a hard-fought win.
