Pakenham’s Rotary Club has ushered in a new era – poised to inspire the next generation.

During an emotional changing of the guard last week, former president Greg Peck handed over the reins to Goran Galic, marking the 57th changeover.

A new theme, “be the inspiration”, was also unveiled.

Mr Peck first took to the stage, acknowledging Pakenham Rotary’s milestone efforts throughout the year.

“We started this year with a magical changeover and this magic has flowed throughout my year with everything running smoothly,” he said.

“Looking back over my year, we have accomplished a lot.

“All of these ongoing projects would not run as smoothly as they have, if it was not for the members who have given their time and expertise to refine them.”

Among some of Rotary’s notable achievements under Mr Peck’s leadership included hosting a charity Debutant Ball, purchasing a lightweight “scallop” seat for Officer Specialist School, hosting the Pakenham Car Show, cooking for the Big Boys Lunch and fundraising in Timor-Leste.

Hosted at the Pakenham Golf Club on Tuesday 3 July, the event saw more than 60 Rotarians celebrate the club’s accomplishments.

Upon being inaugurated, Mr Galic quoted famous philanthropist Paul Harris – the founder of Rotary.

“This is a changing world, we must be prepared to change with it – the story of Rotary will have to be written again and again,” Mr Galic recited in recognition of Mr Harris.

He said he was “grateful” and “honoured” to be bestowed as club president, committing to give it his all.

“While I’m sure it hasn’t always been smooth sailing and I’m positive we will have challenges ahead as a club, I am extremely confident that there is a culture and a desire within the members to meet these challenges head on with courage and optimism,” Mr Galic said.

“I’m very proud of what has been achieved by this club so far but am even more excited at what a difference we can make to ourselves, our community and to the world moving forward.

“You all inspire me and now it is up to us all to inspire the rest of the community.”

The incoming president set four goals for the next year; enhancing Rotary’s public profile, further involving youth, building on the success of current programs and welcoming five new members.
