Representatives from Berwick’s Show Society have grasped their 15 minutes of fame, featured as guests on Channel Ten’s popular hit, The Living Room.

Award-winning Berwick baker Pat Jones – described as the queen bee of carrot cake – took on Spanish chef and television personality Miguel Maestre in a one-on-one bake off.

Mrs Jones, who has risen through the competition by beating her opponents, and thousands of eggs, emerged victorious.

During the segment, she shared her tips for a perfect carrot cake.

“Having good carrots and coarsely cutting the carrots adds texture to the cake,” she said.

“It helps having enthusiasm and the fact that people like you’re cooking and they just want more and more.”

While judge Gwenda Preston enjoyed both Mrs Jones and Mr Maestre’s dishes, she ruled that Mr Maestre did not follow the carrot cake competition’s guidelines.

She said the carrots were not cut fine enough.

Mr Maestre, in an ode to Berwick, acknowledged the suburb’s culinary achievements.

“This village is home to some of the country’s best bakers,” he said.
