Hunters who illegally slaughter deer in Bunyip State Park have been put on notice, with police launching a crackdown on the primitive practice.

People are reportedly trespassing on private property just to locate the animals, using inhumane methods to try and slay them.

A number of deer and kangaroo have been spotted – punctured by bows – continuing to roam the reserves.

Jules Cronin, a resident at the base of the park, said he has called the police several times.

“We will not tolerate any more illegal shooters or irresponsible shooters that spotlight into our paddocks and shoot for sport,” she said on Facebook.

“It is illegal to hunt in a state park and it is illegal to shoot on land unless you are a registered shooter or the landholder has asked you to.

“My community has had enough and we are all now in nightly communications and are gathering registrations and passing them onto police.”
