ROUND 16

A barnstorming five goal final term resulted in a draw between Chelsea and Pearcedale on Saturday, with the Panthers fighting back from a 25-point three quarter time deficit.

Looking down and out in the eventual 13.12 (90) to 13.12 (90) result, the Panthers were on fire in the final term and just ran out of time.

Snaring five goals, Travis Bravo was the star of the day, while midfield star Luke Dalmau was once again prominent as he builds into some electric form.

Down at Glover Reserve, Devon Meadows were too strong for the struggling Crib Point, 15.18 (108) to 10.8 (68).

Kicking six unanswered goals in the first term, the Panthers were never seriously challenged but the Magpies showed some fight to actually even up the final three quarters.

The Panthers were well served by Michael Theodoridis, who kicked his third successive five goal haul, while Troy Aust was superb.

AFL YARRA RANGES

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 13

In promising signs for the future, Emerald kept pace with competition heavyweight Woori Yallock throughout their clash but ultimately faded late to lose 13.15 (93) to 10.8 (68).

After the Tigers got the early jump, the Bombers bounced back hard and took a five-point advantage into the main break. They were still well within touch with just a quarter left to play, but the Tigers had enough class when they needed it most. Campbell Smedley and Joel Adams were two of the standouts for Woori, while Grant McCarthy and Aden Quirk were particularly impressive for the Bombers.

In Division 2, meanwhile, Gembrook Cockatoo looms as a real premiership dark horse. The Brookers sit fourth, a game and percentage clear of Yea after a thumping win away over Thornton Eildon, 26.19 (175) to 1.2 (8).

But, crucially, Paul Gramc and Joel Gibson will play out the remainder of the season for the side – which could also be bolstered by some other significant inclusions.

Gramc (four goals) and Gibson were instrumental on Saturday over the hapless Shinboners, while Andrew Shipp booted six up forward.

GIPPSLAND LEAGUE

ROUND 16

Warragul was unable to claw its way back after conceding six opening term goals against Leongatha, 14.15 (99) to 5.10 (40).

In a critical game for the Gulls’ finals hopes, the home side had a slow start and despite working their way back in a three goal third term, were blown away once more in the final quarter.

Drouin, meanwhile, gave Traralgon a stern challenge with a 13-point loss, 14.15 (99) to 12.14 (86).

The Hawks trailed by just seven points at the final change, but couldn’t find enough avenues to goal to fall just short.

Eddie Morris was once again best for the Hawks in another commanding display, while Liam Anderson was also solid.

EASTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 1 – ROUND 14

Noble Park recorded its fifth win of the season after easily accounting for Knox at home on the weekend.

The Bulls led by 34 points at half-time and continued to run away with the game in the second half to claim a 17.22 (124) to 8.6 (53) win. Will Collis booted four majors, while Cosimo Anagnostou and Adam Giobbi were sublime.

Rowville was ruthless against Montrose at Seebeck Oval, roaring to a 103-point win, 19.18 (132) to 3.11 (29).

The Hawks were a class above as Riley D’Arcy and Jackson Anderson (four goals each) ran riot.

SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 15

The Doveton Eagles suffered just their second loss of the season. Doveton led by two points at the final change against Highett, but were overrun in the final term, falling 13.7 (85) to 10.14 (74).

Michael Callinan and Cameron Carmody were best for the Eagles.

Keysborough fought out a tough 15-point win against Hampton, 11.10 (76) to 8.13 (61). Chris Bryan (seven goals) was electric up forward.

DIVISION 3 – ROUND 14

Endeavour Hills proved far too good for Hallam at home. The Falcons held the Hawks scoreless in the opening term and went on to claim a 13.21 (99) to 3.4 (22) win.

Nick Gay was impressive for Endeavour Hills, while Rory McIvor was best for Hallam.

Hampton Park was made to work in its win over Black Rock, eventually running out 9.12 (66) to 6.8 (44) winners. Shannon Henwood was stellar for the Redbacks and Justin Hill scored four goals.

Heatherton was never troubled against South Yarra at home, winning 18.18 (126) to 6.7 (43). Heatherton’s David White (seven goals) and Reagan Maddaford were in fine form.

Springvale Districts held a 40-point advantage at quarter time against Ashwood and claimed a cruisy win, 15.15 (105) to 5.3 (33). Lachlan Morrey was superb.

DIVISION 4 – ROUND 15

Lyndale dominated Moorabbin from the outset to claim a 101-point win, 22.22 (154) to 7.11 (53). Trent Day (six goals) and Bradley Edwards led the Pumas.

Sandown was no match for Lyndhurst at home. The Cobras were never in the contest as the Lightning powered to a 15.17 (107) to 5.3 (33) win.

Lyndhurst’s Jeremy Jakupi (seven goals) was dominant up forward, while Jason Twite (three goals) was also superb. Josh Hurford and Brenton Walker battled valiantly for Sandown.

Dandenong simply had no answers for a rampaging Frankston Dolphins side at Overport Park.

The Dolphins did as they pleased and recorded a 20.17 (137) to 4.3 (27) win. Ben Khongbut and Scott Moody were best for the Redlegs.

Carrum Patterson Lakes fell in an enthralling contest at home against Cerberus. With scores level at the final break, Cerberus stormed home to run out 15.14 (104) to 13.2 (80) winners. Douglas Watterson and Jonathan Hawes were dynamic for Carrum Patterson Lakes.

VAFA

DIVISION 2 – ROUND 15

St Johns claimed their second win on the trot, and their fourth of the season, with a nail-biting win over Bulleen Templestowe AFC at Thomas Carroll Reserve.

In a close battle all day, St Johns led by 10 points at the final break and completed the job with a 14.15 (99) to 13.10 (88) win. Rohan Scott and Joshua Mourant (four goals each) powered the forward line, while Brendan Ash was pivotal in the clinches.
