As we enter the festive season and 2018 comes to an end, we are reminded of what is most important in life – family, friends, health and wellbeing, and our community.

Let’s celebrate, let’s appreciate who and what we have, and let’s look to a brighter year ahead.

At this time of year, it can also be easy to find ourselves distracted with the ever-expanding ‘to-do’ list. Tensions can rise, the pressure is on to make it to every event, and we are in the midst of the treasure hunt that is finding the perfect gift for each of our loved ones.

That is why this is the perfect time to take a step back and reflect on the year that has been, be grateful for the things and the people we have in our lives, and look forward to what we might experience in the coming year.

We must also acknowledge that Christmas can be a difficult time for some and our love and support may be needed more than ever. Being part of a community means being there for others in their tough times, so this Christmas and New Year period I encourage you to reach out to those in need, whether that be offering friendship or by giving to charity.

I would like to express special thanks to everyone in our community who volunteers at Christmas and throughout the year to help others and make our shire a wonderful place to live.

I would also like to thank my fellow Councillors for their valued support and commitment. Together we will continue to work with our community to make a difference.

On behalf of all of us at Cardinia Shire Council, I wish you all a wonderful festive break and a safe summer season.

– Cr Graeme Moore, Mayor
