A motorcyclist has been placed in an induced coma after a frightening crash on the Princes Highway, Pakenham, outside McDonalds.

The rider was reportedly leaving the car park of the fast food precinct when he was blindsided by a four-wheel-drive about 1pm on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the man to the Alfred Hospital, where he is being treated for several broken bones and internal bleeding.

Police have advised that the rider was not at fault during the collision.

The Princes Highway was reduced to one lane for several hours while emergency services cleared the debris.
