A haystack that caught on fire in a Catani hay shed took four days to extinguish.

Up to ten firetrucks initially responded to the blaze when it broke out at the Caldermeade Road property around 10.15am on Wednesday 16 January.

While crews managed to get the fire under control by midday that day, it burnt for a further four days.

19 CFA appliances attended over that time.

Smoke billowed from the burning structure, resulting in a smoke warning for Bayles, Caldermeade, Catani, Cora Lynn, Iona, Lang Lang, Modella, Monomeith, Vervale, Yallock, Yannathan and Yannathan Upper.
