The Educator magazine has named Beaconhills College teacher Danielle O’Leary as one of its 20 top ‘Rising Stars’ in Australian education.

Ms O’Leary is senior geography teacher at Beaconhills’ Berwick Campus.

Educators across Australia were asked to nominate the brightest young colleagues under the age of 35 who they believe are poised to become tomorrow’s school leaders.

Rising Stars recognises future education leaders under the age of 35.

Ms O’Leary was nominated by Macmillan Publishing, which is currently collaborating with her to produce a new textbook series for humanities.

A passionate educator, Ms O’Leary said she loved being part of her students’ journey as they gained skill, understanding and confidence over time.

“There is no better feeling than seeing a student show pride in themselves and work towards achieving their personal best,” she said.

“I am constantly inspired by the amazing mentors, colleagues and teachers I have had in my life, and also my students, and the new questions, ideas and connections that they develop every day.”

Rising Stars sponsor, the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE), said it was proud once again to acknowledge the successes of this year’s Rising Stars.

“It is inspiring to see so many young educators providing leadership in addressing the complex educational challenges we face in the 21st century,“ MGSE dean Dr Jim Watterston said.

“Their expertise, desire to innovate and passion for change will hold them in good stead as they pursue their careers in education.“
