A dramatic 45 minute police chase through Pakenham has come to an end with a police car rammed at an Officer South service station.

Victoria Police have arrested two people following the alleged chase which began after police sighted a vehicle, believed to have been stolen, at about 8.45am near Pakenham.

Police units and the Air Wing followed the vehicle as it drove erratically along the Princes Freeway before coming to stop at the service station, at about 9.30am.

Footage has emerged of the vehicle speeding down the wrong side of the road.

When police attempted to arrest the driver, a 35-year-old man, he rammed the police car before officers needed to use OC spray to subdue him.

The man and his 21-year-old female passenger were both arrested and are currently in custody assisting police with their inquiries.

An eyewitness has told the Gazette they saw police try to intercept a vehicle which didn’t stop.

“I passed a highway patrol car and another police car at the Nar Nar Goon roundabout,” the witness said.

“Then shortly before Ryan Road I saw a police car come flying up behind me with lights and sirens to try and catch up to the other car before disappearing out of sight.”

No one was injured during the ordeal.
