A number of celebrations will be held throughout the Cardinia shire throughout October for the Victorian Seniors Festival.

With this year’s theme being ‘Get into it’, hundreds of local seniors will be able to participate in more than 2500 free and low-cost events across the state.

From ballroom dancing to bushwalks, sipping tea at council offices or strolling through Emerald Lake Park, there is even an option to dine with koalas at Gumbuya World.

On Monday 7 October, a trip into Melbourne city will be held from 10am while on Wedneday 16 October, the Cardinia Cultural Centre will host an Edith Piaf show before the grandchildren are invited to a rock painting event at Puffing Billy on Wednesday 23 October.

The festival is a time to celebrate ageing and recognise the contribution our elderly community has made and continue to make within society.

As recognised by the World Health Organisation, the Cardinia shire is recognised as an Age Friendly City, encouraging active ageing by giving people opportunities to enjoy good health, participate in their community and feel secure and safe as they age.

Seniors with Victorian Seniors Cards will also be eligible for free public transport on all metropolitan and V-Line services from Sunday 6 October to Sunday 13 October.

The Victorian Seniors Festival runs throughout October. For more information on the festival, including schedules and prices, pick up a copy of the Cardinia Ageing Well Newsletter available at a number of places including council’s Civic Centre.
