The son of prominent Bunyip newsagents Joe and Camila Greco will soon take the title as principal of Columba Catholic Primary School.

Bunyip born and bred Andrew Greco will take over from Jan Gubbins just in time for the start of 2020 schooling year.

Mr Greco said he was grateful to be welcomed back into the community he grew up in.

“The Columba school community has been built on tremendous care and kindness for all students and families,” he said.

“We will work hard to maintain the strong culture of faith and learning, and continue to provide a very special environment for the children we teach.”

Current principal Ms Gubbins is set to retire after an impressive 13 year stint as principal, but she leaves confident her successor will see Columba left in good hands.

“I know Andrew will lead our wonderful school community with integrity, enthusiasm and wisdom, maintaining the school’s position as a high-quality provider of affordable Catholic education in Bunyip,” she said.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale Maria Kirkwood thanked Ms Gubbins for her service and congratulated Mr Greco on his appointment.

“Andrew’s deep understanding of the community in Bunyip will be an asset as he works to build on the strong foundations laid by Jan during her time at Columba,” Ms Kirkwood said.
