Lakeside Sailing Club is letting down the gangplank for members of the public to come and give sailing a go.

On Sunday 27th October the club is hosting its annual Discover Sailing Day, where locals can come and try sailing for free and get an introduction to the sport and the club.

The day also serves to open the club’s sailing season.

Lifejackets are supplied and club members will provide full instructions as residents take a turn on the 16-foot corsairs around the lake.

Last year, around 100 people arrived on the day, and Commodore Max Wilton said the club was expecting similar numbers again.

He said the day was suitable for all ages and abilities, with the club regularly taking disabled people out on the water too.

“We’ve got a gantry crane on the jetty and we can assist disabled people to enter our boats.

“We’re happy to welcome anyone who wants to come along, we’re a happy and inclusive club,” he said.

The Lakeside Discover Sailing Day will be held at 48 Cormorant Parade, Pakenham, at the boat ramp and jetty at Lakeside, from 10.00am until 3.00pm on Sunday 27 October.
