Eight CFA trucks were required to extinguish a grass and scrub fire near Gumbuya World along the Princes Freeway in Tynong North during the morning of a state-wide total fire ban.

Initially reported as a bushfire, vehicles from Bunyip, Pakenham, Tynong, Longwarry and Maryknoll responded to the scene near Brew Road just before 6.30am on Thursday 21 November.

It took crews 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control, with the fire completely put out by 8am.

“The incident was brought under control at 7.14am, and two large piles remained very hot while an excavator worked on scene,” a CFA spokesman said.

It’s understood crews remained on scene for an hour after to conduct blacking out procedures in the area.

The cause of the blaze is still unclear, however a Victoria Police spokesman confirmed they weren’t investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The Gazette was told the fire posed no risk to Gumbuya World.
