Aspiring lawyers were encouraged and acknowledged at the Duffy and Simon Law Firm’s awards ceremony in Pakenham on Wednesday 4 December.

In its fifth year, the awards aim to recognise secondary school students who have excelled in the area of legal studies.

“The idea is to create a relationship between the schools and our office,” Duffy and Simon Lawyers partner Sandy Keysers said.

“We do like to offer the students who received the awards the opportunity to come in and work with us occasionally if they’d like and we’ve had a lots of them do it.

“It’s hard to get lawyers out here because lots of them want to go to the city and work in big firms and that’s fine but it’s nice to get that community involvement and make sure they’re aware that we’re here.”

Duffy and Simon Lawyers partner Damien Mckenna acknowledged the efforts of the parents and teachers in helping the students to excel.

“One of the big benefits that we have working out here is we do all sorts of legal work – we do complicated and interesting stuff but we also have the opportunity to live in a smaller community without the commute,” Mr Mckenna said.

“Part of living in a community means we look out for the community which feeds into these law awards.

“We have had previous winners of the award work with us.”
