The Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) will continue operating sales at the Warragul saleyards until 2021.

As previously reported by the Gazette in September, existing saleyards in Pakenham and Warragul will merge into a new saleyard in Bunyip North.

The Warragul saleyards were set to cease at the end of the year, with the Pakenham saleyards expected to continue operating for the next three to five years.

But on Thursday 5 December, the VLE announced dairy sales will continue at the Warragul saleyards until 26 March 20221, with bobby calf markets also set to continue until this date.

The announcement comes following a meeting with VLE representatives and Warragul Stock Agents Association president Michael Savage on Friday 22 November.

All other markets will be transferred to Pakenham by the end of the year, as previously reported.

On 15 November, the VLE announced 84 acres of land had been purchased for the new saleyard Tonimbuk Road, fronting the Princes Freeway.

The property will continue to be used for farming purposes while the design is finalised and permits obtained.
