Parts of park re-opened

Bunyip State Park fires in March.

By Mitchell Clarke

Parts of the Bunyip State Park have been re-opened to the public, following the March fires.

Bush walkers and horse riders will now have access to an extra 35 kilometres of tracks in the western side of the park, with Parks Victoria announcing the opening of the Mortimer Picnic Ground and Cannibal Creek Horse Unloading Area.

As part of the park’s rehabilitation, new fire pits and tables have been installed at Mortimer’s, and the area has officially re-opened to camping for the first time since March.

A large area of the park remains closed for bushfire recovery, with the open date yet to be decided.

Other areas of the park are continually monitored and assessed and will be opened in stages.
