An Officer man has vowed to step out and walk 50 kilometres along the Princes Highway to Caulfield in a bid to raise money for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Adam Gluyas, 36, is busy preparing his body for the 10 hour trek, which he’ll begin on Saturday 1 February and finish the following day.

As to why he’s chosen to walk to Caulfield, he admits there was “no particular reason” behind it, other than wanting to push himself to reach the 50 kilometre mark.

“I was originally going to walk from Rochester to Echuca because I spend a lot of time down there, but I figured it probably wasn’t the appropriate terrain,” Mr Gluyas said.

He’s hoping by taking this particular route, he’ll be able to attract some attention to his GoFundMe page, encouraging donations from the community.

“I thought I could just go to the bank and donate some money but I really wanted to do something more than that,” he said.

“Considering what these people have gone through, I just couldn’t imagine what they’re going through, so I needed to do something more.

“Seeing what all the families are going through really inspired me to push myself and challenge myself mentally.”

At last count, Mr Gluyas has raised almost $1100 in two days and hopes to reach $3000.

“We’ve been getting a bit of momentum on the page so if we can raise a decent amount of money that’d be great,” he said.

“My sympathies go out to all the people affected.”
