Calling for donations

By Jessica Anstice

A truck will depart Tynong Fire Station on Saturday 1 February to deliver much-needed supplies to those affected by the bushfires in East Gippsland.

Tynong Fire Brigade members are banding together to coordinate donations in time for the distribution.

“Many in our local community were impacted by last season’s Bunyip Complex fires and were able to be assisted or see the value offered by BlazeAid,” Tynong CFA member Denise van der Veer said.

“So this is our chance to help them help others, and also utilise the increased community interest and awareness from our recent Wildlife Pouch sewing day.”

At this stage the brigade is after non-perishable food including snacks and staple ingredients, kitchen supplies such as gladwrap, foil and dishwashing detergent, first aid packs, and toiletries including soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. The brigade is not accepting clothing, furniture and bedding.

All donations need to be dropped at Tynong Fire Station between 5pm and 6.30pm on either Wednesday 29, Thursday 30 or Friday 31 January.

Items that will be accepted include:

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, sanitary products)
  • Treats and snacks
  • Spreads (jam, peanut butter, Vegemite, honey)
  • Ingredients (flour, sugar, rice, pasta)
  • Tea, coffee, hot chocolate
  • First aid packs
  • Fly spray
  • Tea towels, sponges, cloths, rubber gloves, garbage bags
