Ex NBL star Mike Spears paid a very special visit to Pakenham Springs Primary School for its annual Senior Student Conference on Friday 31 January.

The basketballer and motivational speaker talked to the Grade 6 students about perseverance, motivation and keeping a positive attitude, while Cardinia Youth Services ran a session on opportunities for young people in Pakenham and resilience skills.

Goal setting and keeping motivated towards achieving goals was discussed by DELTAR Motivation.

After the discussions wrapped up, the students were invited outside for a staff-student basketball game alongside Mr Spears, and a barbecue lunch.

“Our day was fabulous. Throughout it, we set high expectations for the year, stressed the importance of being great role models for other students and also talked about the rights and responsibilities of students at Pakenham Springs Primary School,” assistant principal Renee Cotterell said.

“This is the second time we have run this event, and last year we found that it really set the year up in a positive way and helped develop leadership, self-motivation and confidence characteristics in our students.

“It was also a wonderful way to build strong, positive relationships between our staff, school leadership and senior students.”
