A man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries after his vehicle crashed into bushes in Officer.

Emergency services were called to reports that a car had lost control on Armytage Road, about 4pm on Wednesday 5 February.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Pakenham man, was trapped in the vehicle for about 45 minutes, according to rescue crews.

Volunteers from the Pakenham Road Rescue Unit, which is made up of members from the Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA were forced to work in difficult terrain.

The rescue involved removing the side of the car with hydraulic tools and extricating the man on a spine board. Rescuers were then required to form a human chain to bring him to the roadside.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the investigation into the crash remained ongoing.
