Dashcam footage has captured the bizarre moment a brazen thug jumped onto the bonnet of a parked car and stomped on the windscreen in front of stunned shoppers in Berwick.

Horrified shoppers at the busy Eden Rise Shopping Centre watched on as the 16-year-old boy caused havoc in broad daylight, about 3.30pm on Wednesday 19 February.

The footage, which was posted to Facebook by Dash Cam Owners Australia, shows the moment the young thug jumped onto the parked car before stomping on the windscreen twice, causing significant damage.

The offender, who jumps from the car like nothing happened, appears to try and run from the scene but a determined witness gave chase with a baseball bat.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed to the Gazette that officers were able to track down the suspect.

“Police have charged a 16-year-old Frankston boy following an incident at a Berwick shopping centre on 19 February,” the spokeswoman said.

“He has been charged with criminal damage and was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.”

It’s believed the thug was also responsible for smashing the front window of a nearby takeaway shop.

Eden Rise Shopping Centre was contacted for comment.
