An $875,000 investment to re-seal 96,000 square metres of road on the Pakenham Bypass is now complete.

The re-sealing works began in early February and were completed under a state government “road maintenance blitz” which is set to benefit up to 28,000 motorists who rely on the stretch of road daily.

Roads, Road Safety and the TAC minister Jaala Pulford said the investment will boost safety for motorists in Pakenham and surrounding suburbs.

“We’re restoring roads across the state, as part of our year-long maintenance blitz,” Ms Pulford said.

“These works are so important for preserving the integrity of our roads and making sure Victorians can travel safely.”

Surface re-sealing provides skid resistance and waterproofs the road, ensuring it remains in good condition for longer.

“The Princes Freeway and Princes Highway resealing works keep them in good condition for longer,” Bass MP Jordan Crugnale said.

“This means they are safer and smoother for the thousands of drivers using the roads daily.”

The project was part of a larger $653.5 million maintenance program to rebuild and resurface freeways, arterial and country roads.

Across greater Melbourne, more than $125 million of maintenance works were delivered during the 2019/20 financial year.

“We’re getting on with these works now so roads remain safe and smooth for longer – getting Victorians to where they need to go,” Ms Pulford added.

Motorists can check what other road works are happening in their area and how they’ll be affected by using a new maintenance portal at vicroads.vic.gov.au.
