Year 12 Beaconhills student Jamie Watts has been recognised by the premier for her 2019 VCE subject work in Extended Investigation.

The Berwick campus student received a subject score of 48, placing her second in the state.

Ms Watts had already earned selection in Top Talks and presented at the State Library event in February.

Although she may have to wait a little longer for the official presentation, which is now delayed due to Covid-19, Ms Watts was thrilled to learn of her Premier’s Award.

She said the researching and writing the paper was her favourite part of the subject.

“Getting to research something I’m interested in and having the excitement of piecing it together to create something new was a great feeling,” she said.

She added that she would highly recommend that students did Extended Investigation (EI) in VCE.

“It’s improved my skill set and knowledge in practically all areas of my learning, and to this day, I still use my EI research skills and the contents from my paper in my other projects and subjects,” she said.

This is second Premier’s Award to a Beaconhills College student for Extended Investigation despite the subject only being offered since 2014.

Ms Watts’ teacher, Alan James, said he had enjoyed seeing his student evolve as a thinker and problem-solver during her studies.

He said she also overcame the hurdle having to refocus her research topic just two months before her submission deadline.

“Jaime thoroughly deserves the recognition that this award confers upon her.”
