Emergency services managed to free a driver from his vehicle after his car crashed down an embankment in the Bunyip State Park on Sunday 24 May.

The vehicle rolled down an eight-to-ten foot embankment along Tea Tree Road in Labertouche, leaving the man trapped for about 45 minutes before a passer-by alerted emergency services.

Crews from the SES, CFA and Ambulance Victoria were alerted of the incident at about 5pm.

Pakenham SES volunteer, Shayne Honey, said it was a difficult scene to access, as only four-wheel drives could get close enough.

Emergency service crews rescued the man, believed to be in his late 20s, by making their way down the embankment.

The driver was released by about 6.30pm before he was carried back up the embankment to reach the road surface by 7.10pm.

After further assessment by the paramedics, he was transferred by the air ambulance to The Alfred hospital.

A spokeswoman from The Alfred confirmed the man is in a serious but stable condition.

The intense rescue was performed by Dandenong CFA, Nar Nar Goon CFA and Pakenham SES, along with the assistance from local brigades.

Due to the nature of the rescue, a specialist high angle rescue team was called in from Dandenong CFA.
