Gumbuya World has been forced to push back their reopening date, a day before they were set to re-open to the public.

The popular Tynong North theme park announced in mid-June they would reopen in a limited capacity from 27 June, but a boom in Covid-19 cases has halted the park’s grand plans.

“As a result of the recent spike in cases around Victoria and our neighbouring suburbs we have made the tough but necessary decision to hold our re-opening this weekend,” Gumbuya World said in a statement.

“Originally, when we made our decision to open two weeks ago restrictions were moving in a positive trajectory however the events of the last week have changed rapidly.

“With so much unknown heading into a peak period, being the school holidays, we want to play our part in keeping the community as safe as possible.”

The park was set to open on Saturday 27 June, Sunday 28 June, Saturday 4 July, Sunday 5 July, Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July.

An official reopen date is yet to be decided on.

“We remain optimistic that this is only a temporary wave and will not rule out re-opening before the end of the school holidays, however we will not be able to confirm until closer to date,” the statement read.

“We cannot deny that this is a big challenge for our beloved park but as a team we feel positive that we can get through this together and come back bigger and better.”

“We ask for your patience and understanding as we prioritise any bookings for this weekend.”
