Closure has been forced upon the bushfire recovery centre in Tonimbuk, after the State Government reintroduced the Stage 3 stay at home restrictions on Thursday 9 July.

Tonimbuk Recovery Centre was set up in the wake of the March 2019 bushfires that swept through the Bunyip State Park and destroyed 29 houses, as well as acres of farmland and bushland.

The centre, set up by Cardinia Shire Council, has been operating since 5 March, providing support and information to residents from fire-affected community members.

In a statement released to the public, a Cardinia Shire Council spokesperson said the council is “very sorry” to have to close the centre, and apologises for any inconvenience it causes.

“We aim to reopen the centre as soon as we are permitted to,” the statement read.

“Don’t forget you can still get recovery, planning and business help on the phone and by email.”

For any recovery-related questions, the council’s bushfire recovery team is available by phone or email from Monday to Friday during business hours.
