A two year old girl needed to be rescued by emergency services after her leg became trapped in a backyard pipe.

Pakenham Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters were called to a property on Bluestone Street in Pakenham, following reports that a child had become trapped, just after 9.30am on Sunday 2 August.

With the assistance of volunteers from Pakenham SES volunteers and Nar Nar Goon CFA, all agencies worked together to devise a plan to retrieve the young child.

She was freed within 20 minutes in a “fairly straight forward” rescue.

A SES spokesman said the rubber sole of the girl’s shoe had become stuck in the pipe, which in effect had trapped her.

Emergency services worked to free the girl within 20 minutes.

“Crews dug down past her leg and cut a section of pipe out so that they could get their arm in there to free her foot,” he explained.

“They undid her shoe to loosen it, so her foot could come out of the shoe which freed her.”

Paramedics were called to the scene to assess the girl but she didn’t require any treatment, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman confirmed.
