Heartwarming videos from students young and old have been sent to emergency service workers in a bid to bring some joy to our frontline heroes.
Beaconhills College students filmed three videos and distributed each to Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria and the CFA, as part of the school’s Beacon of Hope initiative.
Beaconhills College head of citizenship and service Clare Tuohy said the program was aimed at creating a culture of service within the college community.
“We respect these people who are doing this great work in our community,” Ms Tuohy explained.
“We really should also be thanking our emergency service workers both locally and statewide because they are absolute heroes.”
Students between the ages of three and 18, from the Pakenham and Berwick campuses as well as Little Beacons, got involved in the feel-good activity.
“There was no scripts … I didn’t want it to be too polished, I wanted it to come from the heart,” Ms Tuohy said.
“The way I structured it was to represent the whole college by focusing on gender equity, college equity and campus equity.
“It makes me feel unreal, but this isn’t about me, it’s about the kids. The kids are so proud of themselves and what they’ve done.”
The school’s videos have been shared far and wide, with Victoria Police posting the video on their Facebook page, which has an audience of almost 700,000 likes.
“This week has been a hell of a year so it was heartwarming to find this video from Beaconhills College in our inbox,” the post said.
“All we can say is thank you Beaconhills College, you’re very welcome, and no YOU’RE crying!”
CFA deputy chief officer south east region Trevor Owen also extended a sincere thanks to the students.
“Thank you to the thoughtful students of Beaconhills College for expressing their appreciation for our local firefighters who have continued their great work to keep the community safe during these tough times,” Mr Owen said.
“Although our firefighters aren’t able to thank the students in person, we are looking forward to being able to safely meet with our local school communities soon.”
