A student from Beaconhills College in Berwick has tested positive to coronavirus.

In a statement sent to parents and guardians, the college said the year 10 student had not been on campus since Tuesday 28 July.

The college’s Berwick campus and Little Beacons Early Learning Centre closed for students and staff from Thursday 6 August for 24 hours initially.

During the closure, the college and the Department of Health (DHHS) will work through a contact and containment strategy which will include identifying and notifying any other student or staff member who was in close contact with the student who tested positive.

The Gazette understands the confirmed case will not affect the operations of the Pakenham campus.

“I understand this news will be concerning for many of you,” the statement to parents and guardians read.

“I want to assure you we are doing everything we can to contain and slow the spread of the virus and ensure the health and safety of our whole college community.

“We will be working closely with the DHHS regarding our next steps and appropriate action and will keep you informed every step of the way.”
