Police track down laser light lout

A Pakenham man was taken into custody for pointing a green laser towards a police helicopter on Sunday 6 September.

Officers from Cardinia Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at a Pakenham address in the morning, following an investigation into a man and woman pointing the laser light at the chopper.

The 36-year-old was taken into police custody to assist with their enquiries.

He is expected to be charged on summons for endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, reckless conduct endangering life and possessing a prohibited weapon.

In a statement, Victoria Police said the operation of a green laser pointer towards an aircraft is a “serious offence” which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 15 years.

Police reminded the public that a green laser pointer is a prohibited weapon and are illegal without an exemption.
