The name of two new schools opening in Cardinia Shire in 2021 have officially been announced.

Pakenham’s new secondary school will be known as Edenbrook Secondary College, while Officer’s new primary school will be called Orchard Park Primary School.

Both schools are among 14 new State Government schools set to open in 2021.

Edenbrook Secondary College, which was formerly known by its interim name of Pakenham Henry Road Secondary School, will include a visual arts building, a science, technology, engineering and maths building, and two outdoor play courts.

Orchard Park Primary School, formerly known as Timbertop Primary School, will include two learning neighbourhoods, an administration building, outdoor play courts, a performing arts and physical education building, an arts, science and food technology building, and a sports field.

The names were chosen following community consultation and discussions with Geographic Names Victoria, with consideration given to factors including public interest, relevance to the local area, and the consideration of local indigenous languages.

“Two new schools for two growing areas, I am really thrilled we are that little step closer to hearing the opening school bell, welcoming foundation students and bringing together a whole new school community,” Bass MP Jordan Crugnale said.

“We are proud to be delivering this new school for students in Cardinia Shire and look forward to Orchard Park Primary School becoming an important part of the community,” Eastern Victoria MP Harriet Shing said.

Education Minister James Merlino said naming each school marked a milestone in establishing their identity in the community.
