Remote students from Bridgewood Primary School took part in an offsite evacuation drill thanks to members of the local Country Fire Authority (CFA).

The practice evacuation coincided with an onsite drill for the kinder and primary aged children who have remained at the Officer school campus through the coronavirus lockdown.

Officer Fire Brigade Fourth Lieutenant Roh Taylor was interviewed on camera by Bridgewood Primary School assistant principal Maree Jarrett to create a video that was shared with students during an online class.

“The interview emphasised the importance of leaving the house if, for example, you smell or see smoke or if the smoke detector goes off,” Ms Jarrett explained.

“The eldest Bridgewood sibling was charged with the responsibility of being fire warden for the drill, and families were ushered out to their letter-boxes.

“Roh showed the children how to ‘get down low and go, go, go’.”

At the end of the lesson, a siren sounded to commence the “very successful” evacuation drill.
