Thirteen CFA units were called in to respond to a car fire which completely destroyed a Tynong North garage.

Firefighters were called to a property on Mintern Road just after 9pm on Wednesday 23 September following reports of a structure fire.

A CFA spokesman said the garage, which was about 25 metres by eight metres in size, was fully involved.

It took crews from Tynong, Maryknoll, Pakenham, Bunyip, Bayles and Nar Nar Goon almost an hour to deem the blaze under control.

Firefighters from the District 8 Headquarters in Dandenong South and crews from Fire Rescue Victoria were also called in to help.

A warning message was issued to the nearby community by the CFA through VicEmergency.

“Smoke may be visible from nearby roads and communities,” the message read.

“There is no immediate threat to the community and no action is required.”

Crews in breathing apparatus remained on scene to mop up and extinguish remaining hot spots, before a stop was eventually issued just before 12.30am.

The cause of the blaze is still unknown, but the CFA said “at this stage it is not being treated as suspicious”.

It’s understood a fire investigator will attend the scene.
