A new cattle committee was formed not long before the Lang Lang P, A and H Show was planned to go ahead after all the Covid- 19 shutdowns and restrictions.
This would turn out to be the first show in the area for cattle exhibitors to attend.
A Youth Education and Stock Show on Friday afternoon before the cattle judging on Saturday as a fresh incentive for the show.
Children and young adults were able to come along to the Lang Lang Showgrounds and gain valuable tuition, guidance and hands-on experience in how to wash, dry, comb, clip and present their animals for shows and sales.
Attendees as young as seven got to lead around heifers in a fun non intimidating environment.
For some handlers, it was their first time holding onto an animal that was potentially 20 times their size and weight- and these animals that were selected for this task, took it in their stride really relishing the attention.
The participants were instructed how to lead the animals around and later judged by Mr Clay Marbilia of Graham’s Seeds in a Parader Competition before also learning about the finer points of judging and assessing cattle and competing in a Junior Judges Competition where the winners from each have the chance to compete at the Royal Melbourne Show in the State Finals.
Miss Jamie Vospher, from Yea stole the evening, winning Both Champion Handler and Champion Junior Judge.
Jamie will now have the chance to compete in the State Finals at the Royal Melbourne Show later in the year.
On Saturday the cattle were presented for judging in the Lang Lang Show Beef Cattle Spectacular all breeds competition.
The event attracted cattle from not only around Gippsland, but also from around Victoria and was judged by Mrs Courtney Hazeldean of Ganado Murray Greys in Central Victoria.
Leigh Price’s black Limousin heifer, Black Label Rejoice was named Junior Champion Heifers and won an Agri-Gene semen voucher, while a Speckle Park cow from Hanging Rock Heather P01 took out Senior Champion Female and went on to be the Grand Champion Female and winning a flush from Bass Valley Embryo Services.
The impressive 19-month-old Simmental bull, Mt Ararat Quantum, won the Junior Champion and went on to be crowned the Grand Champion Bull from the Senior Champion winner, a welsh Black named Buchanan Park Lincoln and owned by Allan and Jill Furborough.
Mt Ararat Quantum shone through to be named Supreme Exhibit form over 50 exhibits and won five of Eprinex cattle drench from Boehringer Ingelheim, while Hanging Rock Speckle Park Stud was named the most successful exhibitor.
All the exhibitors, sponsors and officials were treated to a masterclass in cooking beef by Warialda Belted Galloway Beef who also supplied a tremendous breakfast and lunch in a happy, relaxed atmosphere.

The committee are already starting to plan for next year and look forward to welcoming old and new faces again for even a bigger and better Beef Spectacular!
