A Clyde North man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after he was thrown from the back of a Ute in Rawson on Sunday night, 24 January.

Police say the 20-year-old man was in the tray of a white Holden Colorado, with another young man, on Western Tyres River Road, when the Ute hit a large bump at about 7pm.

He was flung from the tray and onto the ground, where he sustained serious injuries.

The driver and other man in the vehicle were able to raise the alarm and drive the injured man to Tanjil River Road to seek medical care.

He was later airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

The 20-year-old driver from Langwarrin was arrested and remained in custody on Monday morning.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the group driving in the area throughout the day to come forward to police.
