They say food brings people together and that’s exactly what happened to an Officer residential estate during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Kaduna Park Residents Group secured a Covid-19 community connections grant from Cardinia Shire Council and decided to put together a collection of family favourite recipes for a community cookbook.

The book was published in February and a copy of the creation has been delivered to each household.

Kaduna Park Residents Group president Siggy Rehburg led the project and said the book reflected the multicultural make-up of the area’s community.

“There are so many nationalities living here. Even on our committee we have people from Sri Lanka, India, China and we are from New Zealand,” he said.

“Everybody likes cooking and we’re all doing more of it now we’re staying home.”

Residents were encouraged to include recipes that had special family significance but were also easy to recreate.

The diverse range of recipes included Vol-au-Vons, English muffin pizzas, Sri Lankan coconut roti, Liverpool stew, a Keto cauliflower bake and even a fire cider immunity booster.
