Staff members from the Drouin and District Community Bank are the latest volunteers to join the dedicated team that are helping deliver food through the Baw Baw Shire Council’s ‘meals on wheels’ program.

Each and every fortnight, the staff from the community bank will dedicate their time to helping elderly and vulnerable residents across the Baw Baw Shire district, ensuring that nobody is left to go hungry.

The ‘meals on wheels’ program is one of five volunteer supported services delivered by the Council and helps to support over 250 residents throughout the shire, delivering over 23,000 meals each year.

The staff from the Drouin and District Community Bank are joining the team alongside other volunteers from businesses including Commonwealth Bank Warragul, Harcourts Warragul and the Trafalgar and District Community Bank, who have been involved with the program for a while now.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Danny Goss said that the Council were grateful for all the support the program was receiving from local businesses and that it would make a real difference to the community.

“We’d like to thank each of the local businesses, organisations and individuals who volunteer their time to support our Meals on Wheels service,” Mr Goss said.

“This is a great example of our local businesses demonstrating community leadership and we look forward to a longstanding partnership.”

Rod Dunlop, the Chairperson of the Drouin and District Community Bank said that the company were proud of their employees for strengthening community bonds and lending a helping hand.

“As a community bank our charter is to make our local community stronger – that’s what community banks do,” Mr Dunlop said.

“So our wonderful staff supporting our local Meals on Wheels as corporate volunteers fits perfectly with our work in Drouin and District.

Well done to our staff on making this commitment.”

There is always space for more volunteers though, and if you or your business would like to get involved with the ‘Meals on Wheels’ program, get in touch with the Council’s Community Programs team.

Volunteers can contribute as much or as little time per week as they like, with some programs needing as little as one hour a fortnight of commitment.
