Two knife-wielding men have been charged by police following a series of thefts in Pakenham on Wednesday 31 March.

The men are alleged to have attempted to steal a parked car from the driveway of an Arlington Avenue home at around 6.30am on Wednesday morning, but were unsuccessful as they were disturbed by the homeowners.

One of the men produced a knife and pointed it at the homeowners before they both fled on foot.

Having been notified of the attempted burglary, police arrived at the scene quickly and arrested one of the men as he was attempting to get away on a motorbike on Armidale Drive.

The second culprit fled on a stolen motorised bicycle, but was arrested shortly after by detectives from the Cardinia Shire Investigation Unit.

A 42-year-old Pakenham man has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, theft and criminal damage.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15 April.

The second culprit, a 32-year-old Chadstone man, has been charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, three counts of theft and criminal damage.

He was also remanded in custody and will appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 April
