A man believed to be in his fifties has died following an aircraft crash in Kooweerup on Sunday morning.

The male pilot was taking off at the Kooweerup Road airfield on Sunday 4 April when his weight-shift microlight aircraft crashed at about 6.50am.

The pilot, who is reported to be a 52-year-old Burwood man with past flying experience, was the sole occupant of the aircraft and sadly died at the scene.

Police believe the pilot experienced “technical difficulties” before the crash, but are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.

More to come.
