A once in a decade weather event has left Kooweerup a bit soggy after being battered with hail and localised flooding on Friday 25 June.

Just before 5pm, 24mm of rain fell in just 30 minutes, with some drains in Kooweerup unable to cope with the load.

Mickle Street, Main Street, Gardner Street and Henry Street were among the worst with water building up on the road.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Phoebe de Wilt said quick downfall can cause local flooding.

“The thunderstorm which dropped hail and large downfall of rain didn’t stay long and quickly moved on, but it was quite significant,” she said.

“The probability of that event, of that amount of rainfall in that amount of time, is once every 10 to 20 years.”
