The Cardinia Shire Council is hosting free online workshops to mark ‘Community Safety Month’ this October.

Residents throughout the shire are being encouraged to take part in these community safety and emergency preparedness workshops, which are set to kick off on Wednesday 6 October.

The weekly safety workshops are set to cover a wide range of topics to help the local community.

These include home, property and personal safety awareness; residential emergency planning; online safety awareness; bushfire preparedness; family violence awareness; farming and agriculture emergency planning; alcohol and drug use; as well as delving into Cardinia Shire community-led emergency management groups that are accessible for all residents.

The Cardinia Shire Mayor, Brett Owen, said that these workshops would be beneficial for the whole community and were an important item on the council’s agenda.

“Community safety is a leading priority for the council,” Cr Owen said.

“We’re committed to working in partnership with other agencies and organisations, however this requires a whole-of-community response.”

“This is a great opportunity for our community to come together and learn about community safety and emergency preparedness,” he said.

The online workshops will take place every Wednesday and Thursday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
