Nar Nar Goon CFA is calling for the community to play their part in saving lives by donating used vehicles for the Road Accident Rescue service.

Road Accident Rescue services Cardinia, Casey, Bass and Baw Baw to free trapped persons from vehicles involved in traffic accidents.

CFA captain Justin Seddon said the vehicles donated to the club will be used for training purposes.

“We need cars to make sure our skills are up to date so that if someone is involved in a car accident and find themselves trapped, we arrive and use the ‘jaws of life’ equipment to get them out and to a hospital as soon as possible,“ Mr Seddon said.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the automotive industry hard, with more used cars being repaired rather than replaced and less new cars available in Australia.

Mr Seddon said the vehicles donated to the brigade did not need to be in a pristine condition.

“We’re looking for cars in all conditions but with the doors and glass intact,“ he said.

The need for Road Accident Rescue is constant, with Nar Nar Goon CFA responding to three road accidents on Monday 28 March alone.

“The ability to train means we will be finessing these skills,“ Mr Seddon said.

“We’re making sure our skills are the best that they can be, so that we are ready to respond quickly and efficiently.“

Those who are interested in donating a vehicle to be put to good use can contact the brigade via the Nar Nar Goon CFA Facebook page.
