The Victorian Government is providing more than $200,000 in funding for upgrades across the Kooweerup Regional Health Service, boosting aged care in the community.

The health service received $138,000 to replace its ageing air conditioning system, with new units installed in the Westernport Nursing Home’s day room, as well as the Killara Hostel’s kitchen, lounge, dining room and staff office.

Residents at the Killara Hostel received new furniture through a $46,000 Public Sector Regional Aged Care Services grant, including two new lounges, 21 new tables and 53 chairs along with bench cushions.

A further $24,000 was provided to the Westernport Nursing Home for upgrades to their plumbing system to replace three aging macerators.

Funding for the air conditioning units and macerators were provided through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.

Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP said Kooweerup Regional Health Service has offered a suite of programs for the community.

“It was wonderful to catch up with Noni Bourke and her excellent team at KWR Regional Health Service and thank them for their tireless commitment and care to their patients, clients and families during this challenging pandemic,“ Ms Crugnale said.

The $490 million grants program provides critical funding to rural and regional health services and agencies across Victoria, so services can continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Anthony Carbines MP said the funding would help to deliver a safer and more comfortable environment for aged care residents and ensuring they get the best care.

“We’re continuing to invest in our local hospitals and health services – and the health of all Victorians no matter where they live,“ Mr Carbines said.

It is the largest program of its type in Victoria, having funded more than 488 projects since 2016.
