Bayles local Sylvia Bourne from Keysborough Golf Club is the successful recipient of a Victorian Government Golf Scholarship Program grant aimed at helping Victorians kickstart careers in golf.

The scholarship boost will help Sylvia secure a Diploma of Golf Management at the PGA of Australia International Golf Institute.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale congratulated Sylvia on her success in receiving this scholarship grant opportunity

“We are committed to creating career pathways and breaking down barriers for all Victorians to reach their potential through sports and sports administration like golf,” she said.

“The Golf Scholarship Program is all about supporting people in the golf industry and providing a great career pathway that also helps local community clubs retain staff and of course for the recipient young and upcoming players to maximise their talent.”

Since 2021, the program has provided 26 future golf industry stars with grants of up to $7,500 in the categories of golf administration, player support, horticulture and design.

Women have secured 15 of the 26 scholarships awarded have gone to women, providing a launchpad for more women to take on leadership roles within the sport and recreation sector.

The program reflects the Victorian Government’s commitment to health and wellbeing, economic activity and local jobs, diversity and inclusion across the sport and recreation sector.

Golf in Victoria contributes $883 million to the state’s economy and supports 6,900 jobs.

The Golf Scholarship Program is one of a suite of programs which includes the Together More Active Program, Sporting Club Grants Program, Change Our Game Scholarships and the Aboriginal Sport Participation Grant Program, investing in participation, vocational training and support for Victoria’s community sport and recreation sector.
